Fingers crossed!!!

Our visiting mare that was scanned with twins, has been scanned empty at eighteen days again, no sign of her coming back into season. Arghhhhhhhhhh Evil or Very Mad (Have just heard her dam was "trying" to get in foal too and had a tendency to twin)

I'm going out to tease Liz in a moment with everything crossed!! Very Happy

Phoned the stud today and Kally still hasn,t come into season , She was injected 10 days ago, She will have to have another injection, Has anybody else had to have 2 injections to get there mares in season?

I,ve never used the injection before so don,t really know.

Patchwood, the mare I mentioned about, well long story short but we used to have her on breeding loan. So in 2006 she came into season in April and we felt it was a little early and left her. She then didn't cycle again and was injected twice at the stud, never came into season and came home. Never showed in season all summer until I lost the plot, told Mark to "get it fit and hunt it hard" and suddenly it was rank in season, down to stud and covered late August!!

This year she has been injected twice and come into season after four days both times. Sadly she has been scanned once with twins and once empty and hasn't come back into season naturally. I'm not a great fan of injecting but to be fair it must work for other people!!! Laughing

Patchwood, I assume you are talking about prostaglandin injection? I use this a lot if I want to 'short cycle' a mare and it is especially usefull if you don't want to cover on foal heat but don't want to wait for the next season.

However, there are some exceptions to when it will work; the mare must have finished her previous cycle at least 5 days earlier and she has to be cycling anyway. If she isn't cycling then there is nothing there to short cycle (to put it in laymans terms) so it isn't always successful and your mare may need some regumate or something to get her cycling properly - Vet is the best person to talk to, have you got a good equine vet or is there one at the stud?

Hope this helps!

Over in Ireland things have not gone to plan with Lou; she was not playing ball and cycling properly, despite help, for AI, so Sash switched tactics and she's away on holiday at a local Pally stallion.... she didn't take first time and has just come out of season second time, so everything crossed... although she has been commandeered as field mate for said stallion (only in Ireland!) for the summer, so if she doesn't take again, she's in the right place..... Laughing

She was brill to get in foal the first two times (even though she 'hides' her pregnancy at the first scan), so I don't know why she didn't keep her pregnancy last year or play ball the beginning of this..... Twisted Evil

Lou scanned in foal - EVERYTHING crossed she keeps it - maybe start doing a sweepstake on base coat colour and spot combination???

My guess is a chestnut colt! LOL

I know, I love them, just I have 3 already and fancy something new! Laughing Also i don't know if there are any dilute overo's in this country yet? I've not seen or heard of any if there are?

I'm interested to see the foal Ari will have, that should be a beautiful little thing! I'm noticing more and more people using Arabs again now in the sports world, it's good Smile
