CHAPS Youngstock Evaluations for 2009

Postby kandm on Thu Feb 26, 2009 11:28 am

I am thinking of taking my new colt to the 2009 Youngstock Evaluations, hopefully to help me decide if I should keep him entire or not!...... I have only had him a few days and if he is to be gelded it will be this spring really - although I would like to get him out and about first to see what people think before I make such a decision............

I have shown CHAPS inhand with my mare before - but not done anything like the evaluations -
can anyone tell me anything about them and what is involved etc?

Many Thanks,

Kate :)

Hiah - how's he bred? Looks a nice sort - are there any local shows for you to get him to before the bigger ones start? To give you an idea of whether or not he is going to do well in the ring?

His breeding is:
Sire: Miley TB x TB/ID
Dam: By Pouchka - Selle Francais x Hanoverian

He is to make 16.2hH+ and has a wonderful temp.

There are local shows - I will be taking him to these first as this will get him used to environment.... we have recently sold our trailer to help fund buying him - so we will have to rent a box which is not the cheapest thing just for local shows! :)

Hi he s lovely 8) .........i did CHAPS evaluations at thier summer champs at Arena UK :? ........Wasn t very impressed :? .Springo came 2nd to Co Pilot in a large sports horse class in the morning ,then went into evaluations , extremely tight triangle which he did foot perfect TWICE (as 1st time they realised nobody had the score sheets :? ). They Mark Shaw & Caroline Hamilton tore my poor boy apart  :( ........stiff through his sholder ,too up right in his pasterns ( yearling !).....Mark wrote "good saddle area" ???????? :? ......GREAT HE S GOT A BACK THEN! ........ no premium what so ever awarded to him :( .......lots of people who had watched commented it was a complete farce ! :? .........no loose school , just walk the triangle , trot the triangle & assessment of confirmation , Springo achieved a 1st premium with the BSPA judged by Celia Clarke & Lynda Lodge , a 2nd Diploma with BEF panel included Celia Clarke & Mark Shaw ......then nothing with CHAPS :( ..............its all great experience but don t be too dishearted by comments judges sometimes make believe in your own horse

O'dear ......... I was hoping taking him to something such as this would help me in my decision to keep him entire for now or geld..... suppose it is just like showing -if the judge does not like your horse you have no chance!!
Hmmmm what to do....

Why don't you take him to the Futurities?

go it ll be good for him anyway they may love him 8) .......or hate him :(
but regardles of thier opinions more valuable you ll see how his manners are ?, wether he lights up & rises to the challenge when asked ?or gets stressed out and silly ........ performance records are excellent for gauging a babys potential 8) but over a full season not one show or evaluation as results can differ so much ...its mad ! ,so its useful to look back & take an average  .Don t ever be put offgoing anywhere or doing anything just go for it !.......he s great !
