Anyone remember having it or know of any kiddies that have had it recently? My girl Hannah is 4 1/2, and has got spots - only a few at the mo, but i think its early days. Ive called her off swimming and not sure if she will be able to go on her school trip on Friday, she will be so disapointed. Her little brother Matthew hasn't shown any signs - YET....!!

If she has got it, the spots will spread and go red and very very itchy. Use Calomine Lotion on her and she MUST stay away from pregnant women!

Both of my boys have had it recently as it was going round all the children at nursery. Sometimes they just get a few spots but generally the spots gradually start to appear over several days and are at different stages, they develop a pussy head and then scab over. They are contagious from the day before the spots appear until the last one scabs over. They can get the spots anywhere and in bad cases they can be up the nose, in the ears, down the throat and in other orafices.....I think that generally happens in adults and is why it's better if you get it when you are younger. If they are itchy I was advised that calamine doesn't really do much and to give them piriton instead. The scabs may scar if she scratches them so try to advise her not to although I know it drives them mad particularly if they are in the hair. We were house bound for about 1-2 weeks and getting cabin fever by the end. My two had a temperature for the first day or two but then felt OK although they didn't look so good. Anyone who has already had chicken pox won't get it again. The incubation period can be up to two weeks!!!

Hope she's feeling better soon.
Fiona

yikes - scarlett fever! Well she is certainly spotty this morning and not very hungry either. Called her off school and she is out of going on her school trip. Poor mite - I won't tell her that. Not sure how we will cope with 2 weeks in isolation mind, thank god for a large garden and the pony just down the lane! lol ( And then the real possibility of her brother getting it...arhhhh)

Hope she is feeling better soon and not scratching too much, best really if your son gets it now better than getting shingles when he is older he will at least have some immunity

On the bright side of things she has been riding Pip more, now cantering on the lunge and jumping. Iam a nervous wreck about it, but she loves it!
