First foal for 2009???!?

Postby Anteres0 on Wed Feb 04, 2009 11:15 pm

17th Jan, is this the first foal for this year?? :)
New laptop so no photo's to upload just yet.... but i will get some as soon as poss.
There is a story to this foal if anyone is interested? About 5 months ago we went and had a look at a mare for sale as a potential eventer, she wasn't what we were looking for, but we observed that she looked like she might be in foal. Owner was sure she wasn't so no more was said. The mare was brought in for the winter, clipped, and hunted (inc boxing day)... as it happened we went back to the same yard to deliver another horse this January... the mare was now showing signs of DEFINATELY being in foal (bagging up), the owners had the vet out and sure enough she was in foal. She had been imported from Belgium and obviously had had a romantic encounter before she left! Her owners weren't equipt for a broodmare/foaling so we agreed to swap her for a nice riding horse of ours to carry on working/hunting on the condition we could take her straight away, and sure enough that night she foaled! Lovely bay cob x filly... the mum is one of the most laid back, easy tempered mares i've come accross and luckily is not at all fazed by any of the moving about! Anyway, mum and daughter are both doing really well and have a nice 30' barn for foal (Smiley) to gallop about in since we have acres of mud rather than grass at the moment, and she certainly gets some speed up in there. :) What a nice start to the year!

So cute!! Sounds like you've had a bit of a worrying tie with him - hopefully he's ok now and will go from strength to strength - although I bet he wishes spring would arrive and it would warm up!
