Hey hun,
Sorry, with one thing and another I have been very busy so kinda forgot about being on here!

Yes Magic is doing really well at the moment! I went to a local riding club show a couple of weekends ago and he was a star - winning us our first class together! only 2ft3 but it was outside and hammering down with rain so was very impressed with his turns - I don't normally go for it in the jump offs but felt if I didn't start I wouldn't get anywhere lol

We have 5 shows in the next 4 weeks so am really looking forwards to them - including a return visit to the riding club show to go bigger and better lol but am currently having real issues with Magics feet, with the pants weather we have been having he is struggling to keep shoes on as his feet are crumbling away :( had the farrier out last week because he'd lost a front and then after he had a spaz attack out in the road mid-hack today (he's never been a fan of the wind and was really on one tonight) he has pushed the other one forwards a bit but its not loose so not sure what to do!but seeing as we have a show thurs and sun this week I think I'll prob call him out (he is only in our area once a week and thats a wednesday)

Have spent the evening pulling ragwort out of his field which was fairly ebtertaining due to how boggy the field was and how weak I am with a pitch fork, although it would appear the pitch fork is weaker as it came out with 3 straight prongs and 1 very bent and sad looking prong! Oh the joys!!!!

Showing off

Will let you know how these shows go after the weekend -- I'm off to watch Aimee and Frankie at Gatcombe this weekend, Can't wait for that either! Good luck Hun x

Congrats on your results - well done!

Yes, do get the farrier, as having a wonky shoe wont help his feet either.

Some horses are naturally prone to weaker feet, so you need to optimise his diet - have you tried something like Farriers Formula? or Formula 4 Feet? Even though he may be getting what is normally regarded as adequate levels of the proper vits and mins, he could still be lacking for him (like humans, every horse is an individual).

Try and keep them clean and dry - as much as possible - as that will help.

Thank you!
Got down the yard today and the monkey has ripped it off so that solves that problem lol, he has always had rubbish feet, They are slowly getting better, I have been feeding him Biotin since I brought him (Oh wow just realised two years tomorrow!!!!!!!) which has made a difference but maybe I should try something else too! This weather is not helping as the fields are disgusting! Thanks for the tips though xx

Hi

It's not just biotin that is important (although it is often a limiting factor for hoof growth) - there are a host of other vitamins and minerals which are involved in hoof growth and quality....

http://www.equilife.co.uk/formula4feet.htm

If you read the blurb down the left hand side you'll see the nutrients and what they are important for. (other products are available, this is just an example - I don't work for these guys!)

It really is worth giving it a go and seeing if you get an improvement; although it'll take 6-9 months for the hoof to grow down far enough for you to be able to nail into the new, stronger, horn.

Sorry to rant on - I've been involved with hooves for years, so they are my pet subject!!!
