Ohh blimey, you really have had it all. I went to bed about midnight so didn't see the standing trouble you had. Saw Jem was cross with her neighbours though! Glad to see more her more relaxed this morning, and by the sound of things pleased to hear he has fed and has been upright. All the best, iam sure everything will be fine.

A very well done to Chris who has worked his magic on the birthing, sounds like he needs a medal.

Aw sarah what a night for you.

Poor Jem seemed to be in so much discomfort, but not getting the massive contractions you usually see.

I was surprised the cam stayed on, and even though it wasnt meant to, would like to give a BIG thank you. Maybe as a one-off it was good to see a difficult birth. Must admit at times I thought it was more to save Jem than the foal.

Didnt stay up after that, so was unaware of all the extra problems you had. It probably shows what a part the foal plays in the birth and maybe the leg problems meant it couldnt "assist" in its birth.

Lets hope today brings you an easier time. (oh and some sleep).

How's the little fella doing this morning? Bloody work computer won't let me see the cam, so I'm reliant on forum updates from 9-5! I did manage to catch a quick glimpse this morning from home and he looks lovely from what I could see, saw him up and down so I'm assuming he's moving around OK??

Glad to hear that he's managed to get up onto his feet and managed to suckle himself, that must have been such a relief for you. From what everyone has said that has experienced this previously he should have a positive prognosis. You could definitely see that Jem knew you were trying to help her baby and she stood so well when he was trying to suckle.

Gosh sar, what a week for you. Glad you managed to get him on his feet and hopefully a few days box rest will give his tendons chance to relax a little. Dilemma was born a little contracted so was kept in for a few days and we had to massage her tendons and just very gently stretch her pasterns forward and massage at the same time.
She was totally fine by a week old.
Hope you managed to get a few hours kip. Well done Chris, sounds like he did a bloody good job re positioning the foal.
I think your webcam is giving a a lot of people chance to see how tough this breeding lark is, and why we breeders often look a little haggered!

I missed everything as was getting a few welcome hours kip while OH took over foal watch for me. Very relieved to hear it all ended well & hope things are still going okay now. You must all be shattered.

while checking on my own horses this morning I thought about a name for this fella. If you want it to begin with a 'J' then Rollestone Jumanji, (as in the film with the board game - a challange to complete!), if its a 'C' (after dad) then Rollestone Círdan. (an elf that survived the journey in LOTR).

Sarah, I'm sure you've done you're own search on the internet for information on contracted tendons but I found this site that seemed useful www.u5uk.com/you/patonandlee/index.htm?ac=C96WE-8.

Great name suggestions R&M, I especially like Jumanji!
eta - I expect he will have a J name after Jemima.
