Yesterday we found stillborn twins in the field. I knew it had to be Kossette or Kachina as both foals were spotted. My money was on Kossette as she had stillborn twins at the same gestation 2 years ago.

And sure enough they were hers.

I am so gutted - they were beautiful, the larger of the two (both fillies) was the spitting image of Kharma, with a spotted blanket and a perfect star and the smaller was a full leopard spot.

She was scanned by our vet soooo carefully as I KNOW she puts up 2 follicles as she had the twins last time before Kharma. Those were missed on 2 scans as well so she obviously hides one well.

I don't know what to do now - we were so careful this time, and they were still missed - do we risk trying again?

Such a bloody shame Sad

And here we were hoping 2008 was going to be a better year than 2007, when we lost Caspar and Leo

So sorry about that Sarah. You do have some rotten luck, more than your fair share I think. My mare Yellow lost a single the year before last at this age and it is horrible isn't it? So much worse than if you didn't get them in foal in the first place.

I think I would try again as although she has done it before, Kharma was fine wasn't he? (And lovely!!) Maybe get her scaned an extra time just to make sure?

So sorry Sar, and bless Kossette, she is such a lovely mare. I know that you scanned, and rescanned, and then some.... Nature is so cruel sometimes.
Here's hoping that this years foal school is a happy one Very Happy

Thats awful! But to reitterate what someone said already, you still have your mare. Sometimes these things happen, there is a reason, its just frustrating and heartbreaking when they do. Prayers are with you.

Thats terrible news, I'm so sorry to hear it!! How is Kossette holding up? Does she realise she's lost her babies yet?

Where on earth does she hide those folicles? Is it possible for horse eggs to spilt and become twins or is it always caused by popping two eggs?

Give the poor girl a hug and a cuddle from me. She's such a lovely girlie.
xx

Thanks everyone - Kossette seems just fine - when we found the twins she was well away from them so had probably come to terms with it well before we found them. She has been her normal adorable self which makes it sadder really as I just feel so sorry for her - even though I know they don't greive like we do but she still must realise something is wrong.

But she is back out with the other ladies now and was warmly greeted by her partner in crime Lola so she's happy again...

Here's hoping for better luck for her this time round...

Very bery sad I know, but things do happen for a reason and it obviously wasnt meant to be. Have you decided if she is going back in foal yet? She will be a fab aunt for the rest of the foalies this year!

So sorry to read this, sarah. Sad

These things will happen - doesn't make it any easier, I know - but you know that you have done all that could be done - I would definitely try again this year - onwards and upwards! Wink

Sush sad news, and both of the fillies sounded outstanding. I would definetly keep trying with her because Kharma turned out to be stunning! Kosette always seems to produce loud coloured foals, again such a shame for the loss. Wish you better luck for next time Smile
