Just wondering what age everyone on here weans at?

I saw an advert the other day for an April foal, "available at weaning in July" for my taste that is pushing it.....

I always say 6 months, but know of a few that wean at 8 months. If a TB foal was born in Feb, he will normally been weaned by the Sept - just as an example of what I know.

think 6 months is ideal but i ll be weaning ( if she seems ready Rolling Eyes ) Faith early NOVEMBER so about 4 1/2 months , I had Bea (at my request Wink )at 4 1/2 months as i d already had Springo at 4 1/2 months ( not my choice ). Bill also HAD to be weaned at only just 5 months as HIS MUM died while he was still on her , all of them seem to have thrived & not suffered for early weaning Cool Rolling Eyes .....but if Faith had been an earlier foal i d have liked her to have been a full 6 months Rolling Eyes

but 3 - 3 1/2 months is too early i d say Confused Rolling Eyes

I normally stick to six months, maybe a week or two before. Last year one of the foals was poorly at around six months, his mum was empty anyway and I wanted him to pick up, plus I wanted to avoid the stress for him so I think he was more like nine months when he was weaned.

6 months is the earliest, like to leave it till 9 months if we can, that is only if the mare isn't in foal again.

Solo was weaned at 5 months but that is only because he was taking all nutrients off Willow and was a late foal but i would like to leave Toby 6 months depending how they are.

we were aiming for 6 months with Nico, we eventually weaned at 5 1/2 months on vets advice as he was doing too well and grow too fast. 3 1/2 months seems awfully early to me

ours were 8 months last year. Kosmo was born mid June, so expect we will leave until March, which hopefully someone will have bought her and wants to take her.
