Hi,

I know some of you on here have had your horses colour tested...... can you tell me where, what they needed, how much and anything else I need to know please?

I think it is somewhere in Cornwall isn't it?

Cheers!

Can't reply specifically but this was advertised in a magazine I read the other day and I noticed they are in Cornwall: http://www.horsedna.co.uk/ It says
Quote:
All tests are £16 each, inclusive of VAT.
Tests are carried out using a small number (15-30) pulled Mane or Tail hairs.

There's loads more info on the website.
Hope this helps!

I've used this company a few times. They're also known as www.horsetesting.com and www.avianbiotech.co.uk and are based in Truro, Cornwall. They're very quick, 7-10 days, and supply free sample kits. Dan is very helpful over the phone and has posted several articles on this site with regard to colour genetics. There are several factors that can be tested for but you can also work out some things for yourself, i.e. if your horse is chestnut then it can't be carrying the black gene as the red gene is recessive and for it to show, the horse has to be carrying 2 red genes.

Hi

Thanks to both of you, for recommending us Cool Yes, we are based in Truro, Cornwall.

sahiba2 - please feel free to drop us a line any time, our number is available through the links already posted here... - there are other Equine DNA colour test laboratories, though often it means sending samples to the United States.

Whoever you decide to use, make sure that you run the tests most relevant to your horse - it can be very easy to spend lots of money on genetic tests for colours that don't really mean anything...

Please feel free to post here if you have any questions about which tests you need carried out - or give us a call anytime.
