For Luci???? I know I'll most likely lose the colour but would like a nice little show hack type for my girls in a few years time. I really like the idea but have had some boo hissing from others at the idea which is now putting doubt in my mind. :?

What colour is Luci? Hard to tell clearly from your signature, if she's Grey do you know what colour she was historically?
Dan Reeves, Animal Genetics UK - Always happy to talk about horse DNA and colour genetics - but don't expect me to know anything about dressage!!

I actually like him. In terms of loosing the colour, well you still have a 50% chance of getting a dilute (a buckskin would be nice - LOL!) Also he looks fine and quite small (is he?) so probably not a bad idea as she's getting older and had a rough foaling the last time (if I'm thinking of the right mare?)

ETA Dan I should have sent a bit of work your way yesterday if you got the call "is it or isn't it a mule?" :P

He's VERY nice, as the write up says "an eye full"......I think he and Lucy would be a great pairing....

Yea Luci did have a rough time with having Toby last time, so a smaller stallion would be better for her. I like this one. X

Ah my personal favourite, although your original statement about probably losing colour is accurate. Without DNA testing, and assuming that the stallion is carrying a chestnut gene, you can expect any one of the following: Buckskin and Bay are most likely (both being about 30% chance each) you could have Smokey Black, Chestnut (therefore Palomino itself is remotely possible) or even solid black.

Ah yes, I took that call. The standard DNA profiling test should flag up the unusual Donkey DNA (if its there) because the range is so much different. If not, there's a primer we can get hold of which is specifically for this test. I'm actually quite excited about it!
